Description
Big Joe Turner, known as the Grandfather of Rock and Roll, was primarily an American blues musician but, in his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination, was also said to be a master of “every genre, including blues, jazz, R&B, and swing.”
His career lasted over sixty years, and he earned the nicknames like the Singing Barman, the Boss of the Blues, and, due to his six-foot-three, 300-pound frame, Big Joe. He composed songs and improvised lyrics that spawned music from later stars such as Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, and Elvis Presley. His musical roots left a legacy ranging from 1938 to 1985, and his voice evokes timeless emotions.
