As The Dublin Senior Footballers ran out against Kerry in the All-Ireland Final at the magnificent Croke Park, the Kingdom had already won the earlier Minor Final in an emphatic fashion. Could Kerry do the Double? The tension was split between the 80,000 fans. This was going to be close. Dublin had to overcome a well-organised Fermanagh team before facing a confident Mayo in the last four. After a pulsating drawn semi-final, the boys in blue finally put them away in the replay.
Kerry, the holders, had already scored 7-12 against a fancied Kildare in the quarter-finals and overturned a strong Tyrone team in the semis. It was going to be a tense, tactical, and tough final between the two in-form squads of the year. No quarter was expected or given. When the final whistle sounded the 2014 champions were beaten and The Dubs once again paraded the Sam Maguire trophy ‘through the streets broad & narrow’
